I agree with Adriana and Chocolate, if we are going to talk about inspiration I admire every one, they all bring a little bit of their own personality and style we don't want to look like robots everyone doing the same thats what makes a difference having so many salseros doing their own thing I love Maria's elegance but I love Dayani's swing I like the originalidad of Chocolate so Marcos If you want to stay with just one stile just keep it to your self but stop giving bad comments about salseros I like everyone no one is better then the other they do their own thing on the floor lets just learn from them and get the best of every salsero ok

actually that's kinda weird cuz we were actually discussing about competitions last weekend.

I also think we have excellent dancers in the state, and we will be doing a competition pretty soon.

Its not for the fact that the dancers need to compete against one another, its just so we can push new people up. I think they do help because it makes people practice... let's hope we do get tons of new competitors. Let's do it for the show and sportsmanship, not to start drama... either way... I see what you all mean though... and I agree, we need one.

ok the congress has great but we don't wanna see Oscar de Leon again, it seems like everytime there is an event everyone wants to bring the same artist Fulanito or Oscar I mean he is el sonero del mundo and no doubt about it but there are some great bands out there too. You don't have to go so far for example California have some great orchestras or if you wanna bring some one that is allready known what about Guilberto Santarosa, El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico Jonny Polanco, perhaps the other day I was listening to La 33 from Colombia they have the kind of salsa we all like the one que te mueve from head to toe man the have some good salsa. wow... I just woke up since Monday when I went to bed at 1pm... CRAZY tired.

Anyways, I would like to thank EVERYONE that attended, it was the BEST CONGRESS yet. Packed house on Friday, literally to the limit and more.

Grupo Niche was off the chain, great people to work with.

Jose from ATP was an amazing partner, and based on comments, all were very happy with everything.

This was by far, our most successfull event, 100% growth... way more than expected and we intend to repeat and exceed the growth for next year as well!
This truly felt like one of those big congresses that you go to out of state, and based on comments, we are not far from being one of the big hitters on the West Coast!

I would like to thank some very special people that made all this possible, and that were truly very helpfull.

Volunteers:
CAAAAAAAANUTA DANCE COMPANY, or as some of you may know her "LA CHICA CALIENTE", or simply known as RENY our good friend from Colombia. Well, she helped us out and your help is not overlooked girl, much love and I hope you help us out next year as well. ..."Pero se te quieeeere!" hahaah..

Hortencia and Sister. Wow, all I got to say is the VIP section was so organized I barely had to check on it. Masterful skills on that system of entry. And Sister you were very good in the cash table! Truly great stuff.

From Callejeros I would like to thank Jimmaaay... he helped out watching the vendors, thanks Jimmy Jimmaay.

Roxana good work on the lists along with the passes - Always helping out Roxy!

Jehu was great muscle power papa... great stuff, great handling whatever Johnathan needed.

And my main man... the one that truly stepped to a whooole new level of organization and helpfullness.... Jonathan - Truly amazing work this year. My goodness he was on top of EEEEEEEEVERYTHING... very impressed!!! He sux as a driver (*ahahah, he knows what I mean*)

Finally my family: My two sisters Leslie and Marilei who with kids were still able to help out. I know they are busy, but man they did help at the door.

My uncle Romy, although he has never seen a congress in his life, he caught the ball and went rolling with it like a crazy Salsero! He was handling the door like a pro when time was needed.

My mother, Bianca la Trailera! or as Robyn and Cubano put it "LA BIONX!"... hahaha, that was soo funny on Monday 4am!

Helping out with descision making and money issues was my beautiful wife Ericka, who at 5'1" is probably the most assertive woman I know that can handle the hotel like that!... She was helping out with stress relief too - Those back rubs are life savers!

From ATP,... all I got to say is that JOSE is a freaking GENIUS! that man has a brain like no other, very intimidating to be next to someone who can think and solve problems that fast... and I thought I was pretty bright!

And of course... all the SALSEROS who we loooove so much. All of this work is for you guys... so you guys can showcase your skills to the world. Heck, who knew that Salt Lake would be doing this type of events hu?!?!?

Salsa Thursdays in Provo has THE BEST environment for Salsa dancing in Utah. Period. If you are looking for a place to enjoy Salsa that's safe, and clean... where you don't have to worry about arrogant people parading their egos... LOOK NO FURTHER.

Seriously, every time a song starts EVERYONE DANCES. It's not a scene to pick up chicks. It's a SALSA DANCE. And it's amazing. You'd have to see it to believe it, because it really makes a big difference when people go to the club to enjoy the art of dancing as opposed to some other cheap reason. Come check it out if you don't believe me. It's different, and in a good way. You're going to like it :)

I think its best if nobody writes any of the events here. We will all give our testimony of the events (who were there) and others like myself have given the testimonies of past events involving the security staff at Studio 600.

If you want to know, just talk to any of the people that were there, because we all now know what has happened to THREE of our Salsa brothers. We are all together in this, because wether you like it or not, we are all a big family... so if you are asking, you probably want to talk to those who were at the incident. That's what I did - They all can tell you what happened that night. If you ask around, you will get the same story througout.

When I asked around... based on the testimonials from many of the people that were there that I know, and many others that I don't know and are not Salsa dancers, the story is basically the same... I don't have to say what happened, nor any of us have to say anything about the incident in regards to that night. Am sure that the lawyers will ask when time is due, and that's when we will all stand behind what we saw and experienced.

I think is best if any of us don't say anything about the incident, but if you want to state something in regards to your personal opinion, you have that right but no insulting people nor personal attacks onto anyone, no matter the person/location.

Based on that, I can just say that it was going to happen sooner or later. I do remember saying that to my friends about the staff @ Studio 600, it was about to happen sooner or later. I say that based on the history of Josh (the security) and the rest of the security staff at Studio, they were treating their patrons badly and with a manner never seen at any other dance club for some time now (including the ones that serve alcohol, which more security is needed).

I do recall that there have been times where the security Staff at Studio 600 is literally yelling at people's faces "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" and sometimes they even have a dog taunting-some-what people to leave the premises. My comment was based on that type of costumer service... if you are wondering ... specially to the people that are paying to dance at the location.

I go to many clubs, and at all of them, the Salseros and others that are non dancers stay after the dance is over, and all the bouncers and security staff are very professional and you know how they ask us to leave? They say: "Drive safely guys, see you next week...". Quite a difference.

I am not here to throw any mud at Studio. In my opion, it is a very nice place to go dancing. I do not agree in many of the policies they have - Specially in the fact that any little gangster or gangster looking kids can enter the premises. And specially the fact that the security definitely uses exesive intimidation and sometimes force, literally pushing their customers out of the premises. And many of us are witnesses to that.

Bottom line is, and all that must be said is that THANK GOD Andres, Panchito and Lalo are very lucky after the incidents. I am so glad that Lalo was treated fast and he is very lucky to come out of this the way he has after what has happened, and I will do my best to assist them in whatever they need.

In regards to the legal stuff, all you guys have to do is remember about the testimonials that some of you have provided, and that the lawyers will do the rest.

In regards to anything else, the funny thing is that people think there is an excuse to anything. Trust me my friends, there is no excuse to what has happened. Usually when things escalate Security is there to calm things down and provide security to their patrons, and what has to be said and proven will be if that was what was done there or otherwise.

I think that if you were there, or know of any information, just call me and I will direct you to the correct parties (the lawyers) 801.809.0405 - and they can take it from there. But it is no place for us to say anything in regards to any side if we do not know the actual events. The people that were there have already been giving testimonies and am sure that everything will come out soon.

I will see you guys tonight at the MAC, and let's raise some funds for Lalo and his family who came from Los Angeles to take care of him in his time of need. Am sure if it was any of you, you would also appreciate the same. Specially if you were a bystander on all that happened.

In my last visit to the hospital I saw Lalo recovering well, but the first day that we went to the hospital we couldn't see him because he was sedated and they told us that he had a vein bleeding inside his brain, a broken leg and bruises all over his body, they had to wait until the vein stopped bleeding to proceed with the necessary surgeries, we waited all night for the Doctor's word and we waited until the next day (sunday) and they gave us the good news that the bleeding had stopped and he was going to go thru surgery to get the blood clot out of his brain and leg fixed. His family arrived just in time to receive the good news that the surgeries went well on his brain and leg. Monday I saw him talking, joking around, interacting with all the salseros who went to go visit him, and more good news came from the doctor saying that he will be out of the hospital very soon (4-5 days), he is happy about it and we all share the happiness with him, he will have to stay home to recover for a long time, but he will be fine and in no time he will be dancing with us again.

On behalf of his family, thank you all for your support, your visits, your prayers, your thoughts and all your help.

We have been told by the doctor that Lalo is a very lucky guy, let this be a lesson that we should all stay united as a family and love one another and take care of each other.

Panchito and Andres have recovered quick and are keeping Lalo company and giving him the strenght in this time of need, thanks to Panchito and Andres for being his friends, and we are all happy to have you guys as part of our family.

He went through sirgury and everything but he is finally ok at 9 30 pm we were able to heard some good news about lalo, his family were able to see him he talked and he was able to remember a few things about what happened. Everardo (Lalo) Lopez... some of you might not know him by name but he's the guy that came from California about 3 or 4 months ago and became part of the Utah salsa family right away....he was hit by a car at studio 600 last night, he was taken to the university utah hospital and he is in critical condition, stable but still critical..we are hoping he will be ok. We are all waiting on the doctor's word, we will keep you informed and if you know any family members that he may have let us know....call Jago @ 809-0405 or Bianca @ 502-4950, please keep him in your prayers...

Yeah in case you missed the link on top of this page, congress starts on February 15 and last night will be on February 17. Opening night we will have Grupo Niche, Saturday will be Mambo Jumbo (local band) and of course... we will have DJ Frank directly from LA...
It will be a great congress. And as to performers, we will have Isidro and Sheila, Abel and Zulmara, Pretty Boys and Girls, Latino Xplosion Kids.... and soo many many more. For the full list of performers, visit www.saltlakesalsacongress.com...
