SALSA DANCERS WITH THE SMOKING HABIT
Alright, let's take this issue onto the dancefloor. When you are dancing with someone
who smokes there is things that you have to take into consideration for the non-smoker
dancer.
FOR THE SMOKER SALSERO/A:
Before you go to the dance floor:
- Please make sure first of all, that you turn off your cigarrette. I don't like it when
I see cig-butts on the floor. They are dangerous too! You can step on one of them and
fall on the hard wood. Also, it's not good if you are going dancing when you have a cigarrette
on one hand, I mean, how are you going to manouver all those steps and pretzels and so on
with just one hand? I can see doing simple basic stuff, but that only extends to a minority of
steps.
- Please try to eliminate any trace of smell of cigarrette from your mouth. Because believe
it or not, even if you can't smell it, the non-smokers can. The thing is that you are so used
to that smell, that you can't tell anymore, but the nons-mokers, they are not used to the
smell so it's easier for them to catch it, and trust me, it is not attractive or pleasant
to be dancing with someone with that smell.
- Strong minty gum or tic-tacs are always good if you are a smoker and you are going
to be face to face with another human being. It covers the majority part of the smell,
and the stronger the better, since it can cover the smell better.
- Always remember that since you are dancing with someone face to face, your breath is
hitting right to their nose, so it's always good to inhale through your mouth to re-freshen
your inner self, and try to exhale through your nose, that will eliminate great part of
the smell as well.
FOR THE NON-SMOKER SALSERO/A:
- Be nice and always, always finish the song with whoever you are dancing with.
- After you are done dancing with a smoker partner, it's always good to let them know that
the smell is too strong, wouldn't you like to know that there is something about you that
needs to be re-touched or adjusted so you don't keep looking, smelling bad? So nicely, pull
him/her aside, and let him/her know nicely, do it privately and direct to the point: "You
know, your breath smells like smoke"
- Always offer a solution to the problem, so as soon as you are done tell him/her about
the smell, follow it with a: "you know, they have some gum/tictac/mints at the bar, want one?"
- Another option is to offer him/her some water so they can rinse their mouths. Remember
to be very nice and polite, don't make it sound like you are attacking them. Water is not
that expensive, so if you do get them water, you'll gain a new friend.
- Remeber to always stay polite, caring and nice to them. If you were in their shoes, you
would want the same.
