GUTTER DANCING IN SOCIAL SALSA CLUBS

Have you noticed that on some clubs, there is some nice Salsa Dancing, and then all the sudden they change it into one of those songs that people just grind to? These two type of dancing just don't go together!

Keeping Dancing Clean!

This is something to consider. I mean, think about it really good. You either have a nice classy place where you can dance Salsa to, for people who love the challenges of dancing Salsa, but then you put a song that just will attract the oposite type of people to your club. This is something that can damage Salsa in general in that area.

New comers, specially people who don't speak any Spanish, will come to see the art of Salsa, and then they will see this. You know what someone actually told me on an experience like that?

"I paid my due to come and watch this gutter dancing? I could have just gone to a regular club for that. I thought this was a Salsa Club!"

This is unacceptable! Specially if we want Salsa to grow... the newcomers that are watching this are not going to want to come back if they have a sense of style. They will attach Salsa to this Gutter dancing in their minds. Which will stop them of knowing the real thruth.

Just think about it. A Salsero, a true Salsero, will tell you that they don't do that type of dancing because they just don't find any fun in it. What's fun about putting your crutch or your butt against someone else's crotch and look like you are humping in the middle of the floor? That doesn't require any type of dancing skill, it doesn't require any technicality nor training to accomplish something like that.

This behavior is NOT dancing!
And no matter how much some people want to believe otherwise, sorry but that is NOT dancing!

It is uncalled for, and should NEVER be done in the Salsa dance scene. Trust me, spectators see everything. They talk. And when they see this trash, they'll talk trash about the place. I've seen it happen, first-hand!

Now, don't get me wrong. I admire the music, if it's pleasing to my ears. I admire the dancing if it's actually dancing. Some nice hip hop or jazz steps that look nice and challenges the body and actually looks like you are dancing. So don't think I am completely against other type of dances. No, no no... In fact I encourage anyone to get involved in any type of dancing. Not just Salsa!

What I am against is the type of trash that some people think is dancing. I can't really tell you that I would stand for it. I just can't...

Respect yourselves, respect each other. Keep the Salsa Dance Scene a classy one. Give Salsa the respect it deserves.
