RULES OF COMPETITION
GENERAL: Competitors must read and obey these rules
GENERAL: Competitors must show proper etiquette during the entire competition
GENERAL: Competitors must consist of a male and female / leader & follower
QUALIFYING: Must sign-up in person at qualifying dates/locations
QUALIFYING: Competitors will qualify by dancing for the audience
QUALIFYING: Each competitor will dance up to 1 min to show their skills
QUALIFYING: The songs will be selected by organizers
QUALIFYING: Once qualifying dates are done, no new contestant may enter
QUALIFYING: Competitors must qualify one time at any of the qualifying dates/locations
QUALIFYING: Once you qualify, then you must get ready for finals
QUALIFYING: If you want to change partners, then you must qualify with new partner
FINALS DAY 1pm: Competitors must be present by 1pm the day of finals for rehearsal
FINALS DAY 1pm: Be present for lottery of order of showcases
FINALS DAY 1pm: Each couple will run through their routines for our camera crew
FINALS DAY 1pm: We will run through the video recording and walk through
FINALS DAY 1pm: Make sure you can apart up to 2 hours for the day rehearsals
FINALS NIGHT: All competitors must be there no later than 9:30pm
FINALS NIGHT: Competitors must be READY to go ON STAGE by 10pm that night
FINALS NIGHT: You may use any song you wish for the finals
FINALS NIGHT: Your showcase must consist of 90% SALSA
FINALS NIGHT: Provide your showcase music in CD format, bring two just in case
FINALS NIGHT: Your showcase should be between 1min - 2min
FINALS NIGHT: There will be a 30 second warm up
FINALS NIGHT: You will be presented to the audience and judges
FINALS NIGHT: You will be judged by a panel of judges who will score each showcase
FINALS NIGHT: Make sure you give a good show to the audience
FINALS NIGHT: Proper attire must be worn and costumes are encouraged
FINALS NIGHT: After you do your showcase do not leave or change for results
FINALS NIGHT: All decisions are final
FINALS NIGHT: Always have fun, enjoy it!
BEGINNER DIVISION * SPECIAL RULES *
PRE-REQUISITES
In order to ensure fairness of the competition, and to encourage the
advancement of future generation of dancers, the following rules apply:
You have been living in the state for at least 6 months
You have experience dancing for no more than 2 years
You never won this competition before
You are not teaching or getting paid for dancing
You never competed in advanced level before
DANCING RULES
In order to keep this level beginner and amateur,
the following apply:
MULTIPLE SPINS = YES ALLOWED
(anything that requires 2 or more spins is considered multiple)
DROPS & DIPS = YES ALLOWED
(any special move going towards the ground)
TRICKS = YES ALLOWED
(any special move without leaving the ground)
AERIALS & LIFTS = NOT ALLOWED
(meaning one person lifting the other one)
FLIPS = NOT ALLOWED
(is when a move is done that takes both feet off the ground)

who wish to compete to do so, the following rules apply:
Any couple from any state my compete
Accept that anyone on any level may compete against you
You may compete in this level as many times as you want
By competing in this level, you are an advanced dancer
You will not be able to compete in lower levels

ADVANCED DIVISION * CASH PRIZE DISTRIBUTION *
If we have 1 to 5 COUPLES then $0300 for 1st - & - $200 for 2nd
If we have 6 to 9 COUPLES then $0500 for 1st - & - $300 for 2nd
If we have 10 or + COUPLES then $700 for 1st - & - $300 for 2nd
SCORING & JUDGING
The finals will be based on a 50 POINTS SCORE SYSTEM. We will have between 3-5 judges for finals.
TECHNIQUE = 10 POINTS
You will be judged on: YOUR CHEMISTRY, HOW SHARP YOU ARE & HOW CLEAN YOU ARE
MUSICALITY = 10 POINTS
You will be judged on: HOW DID YOU EXPRESS THE MUSIC & WERE YOU ON TEMPO
APPEARANCE = 10 POINTS
You will be judged on: YOUR COSTUME, SELF PROJECTION & INTERACTION
DIFFICULTY = 10 POINTS
You will be judged on: YOUR FREESTYLE SHINES, YOUR COMBOS & CHOREOGRAPHY
EXTRA MOVES = 10 POINTS
You will be judged on: YOUR TRICKS, LIFTS AND FLIPS AND HOW WELL EXECUTED THEY ARE
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Competition finals will be televised, therefore you must understand all the rules, and
by competing in this competition, you are now abiding to all the rules, regulations
and notices.
No filming will be allowed at the finals, competitors will receive video of their competing routines. So please do not ask if any friends or family members are able to do so.
By competing, all contestants release full authorization to Utahsalsa.com to the use of all the competitors' names, images, videos, artistic presentation and choreography work for the use of promotion and any other media required by the organizer.
Organizer reserves the right to revoke or null any prizes from the winning competitors as it sees fit.
Prizes are Non-Transferable unless Utahsalsa.com gives special permission to do so.
